Spring/Summer Fishing Opportunities

We are now booking trips for Lake Michigan Salmon and Trout fishing, Inland Atlantic Salmon, and Smallmouth Bass. Late April through May the Lake Michigan Salmon fishing heats up and the Kings start to put on the feed bag, this makes for some great fishing. Trolling is usually the most productive method of catching fish but we do catch them on lighter tackle and a spring King caught on a light spinning rod is about as fun as it gets. We offer trolling and light tackle trips out on Lake Michigan for the Salmon and Trout fishing. We use a Skeeter Walleye style boat for traveling up and down the lake to fish the most productive ports at the time. We take up to 3 customers on the 21 foot deep v walleye boat.

I also offer Lake Trout jigging during the early Spring months in shallow and out in the deeper waters during the Summer months. This is some fun fishing and these fish put up a great fight when hooked on lighter spinning tackle. These fish in Lake Michigan live to well over 30 years and you have the chance to catch some real monsters.

Smallmouth Bass fishing is good from now through August as well and we guide for those on the area rivers such as the Muskegon and the Grand as well as the inland lakes. We usually do our Smallmouth river trips out of my 18ft custom jet sled and the lake trips are out of a 21 ft lake boat. Smallmouth Bass provide great action and a great fight. These fish are a big hit when bringing out kids or anyone that loves to cast and catch a bunch of fish.

River Fishing Steelhead and Lake Fishing Salmon and Trout

Fishing has been good for us fishing for steelhead on the Grand River near Grand Rapids and on the Muskegon River near Newaygo lately. We have been catching decent numbers of steelhead both fresh fish and dropbacks as of late. I would think the Steelhead fishing should continue to be good until the end of April.

We had been out fishing for Lake Trout and doing well on those both jigging and trolling for those that are interested in a trip doing that. Coho Salmon fishing is starting to fire up and should be good for awhile, King Salmon fishing should start firing up sometime in late April or early May. I just picked up a new boat for lake fishing it is a Skeeter WX2060 and I am excited to get it rigged up and out on the big water soon. It is a very versatile boat that can be trailered to wherever the fishing is best and it will be great for trolling as well as casting/jigging. We will be offering Trolling, casting, and jigging trips for Trout and Salmon this Spring so get ahold of me if you want to get out and catch some fish. Spring time is the best time for catching good eating Coho, King Salmon, Brown Trout, Lake Trout, Steelhead, and Whitefish.

I will also be offering some Atlantic Salmon trolling trips if anyone is interested this Spring and Summer. Get ahold of me for details and dates.

Steelhead Fishing

The Grand River Steelhead fishing has been good for us on the Grand River around Grand Rapids and upstream and downstream of the 6th street dam. We have been finding good numbers of fish day in and day out on the Grand River. The Muskegon River near Newaygo has been giving us good numbers of steelhead as well when we have been fishing up there as well. Other area rivers have treated us good as well when we have wanted a change of scenery or have heard of a good bite elsewhere. We have had warmer than usual Fall/Winter up until the second week of January and that has been helpful on bringing fish in. We have also been out on Lake Michigan when we have had the chance and the fishing has been good out there as well for Lake Trout and Brown Trout with other species here and there. We are now booking guided fishing trips for the Grand River, steelhead fishing should remain good on the Grand River through spring. Spring Coho Salmon fishing charters on Lake Michigan will be starting soon. We usually start fishing Coho Salmon on Lake Michigan whenever we can get out there for the Coho. Lake Trout and Brown Trout fishing is good as well on Lake Michigan during the Winter and Spring months. We are now booking Steelhead, Coho, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, and King Salmon Trips for this Winter and Spring so if you have a date that you would like to get out get ahold of me.

Grand Rapids fishing on the Grand River near Grand Rapids

Spring/Summer 2023

Grand Rapids fishing guide service

Spring Steelhead fishing is winding down but there should be some fish around for the next couple of weeks on the Muskegon River.  We had a great Fall, Winter, and Spring Steelhead season despite missing a year class of hatchery fish due to covid back in 2020.  It was great to get out and see everyone and catch some fish.  We had one of the best big fish fall/winter steelhead seasons I can remember.  We had more steelhead topping the scales over 12lbs than any other year that I have guided.  Although I am eager to jump into fishing for some other species for awhile I am looking forward to next fall Steelhead fishing already.  I am already starting to book some of my fall steelhead dates so it is never too early to get a date in the books.

Lake Michigan has been good to us when we have been able to get out there.  We started the season with good action for Coho Salmon back in March and early April.  Although not huge the spring Coho are arguably the best tasting fish in Lake Michigan.  Lake Trout fishing gave us some good action when the Coho disappeared for a little while, we caught Lakers casting and trolling.  It was good to see a decent Brown Trout fishery this spring as well the few times that we got out and went after those.  We did not catch any monster browns by any means but the action was pretty good and most of the fish were your typical spring 2-6lb Brown Trout with the occasion larger fish.  The Spring Kings have shown up and we have been catching good numbers of those lately.  I almost forgot how feisty these spring Kings can be when they are in shallow.  In my opinion there is nothing in Michigan that compares to the fight of a spring King Salmon.  May Kings are your best tasting Kings of the year for sure!  Get ahold of me if you are looking to get out on the big water and chase some Trout and Salmon.

Smallmouth bass fishing has been good as well depending on the weather.  It has been all over the place for temperatures here in Michigan but when we have had a stable or warming temperatures there has been a good bite.  I am truly looking forward to some nice Summer days on the river chasing Smallies.  The weather is usually nice, the scenery and peacefulness is top notch, and the action is usually hot and heavy.  Last year we caught a fair amount of fish over 20 inches with the largest being 22 1/2 inches.  We catch some nice Northern Pike, Walleye, and Summer Steelhead while chasing after the Smallmouth as well at times.  If you are into top water action we usually see the best action during the mid to late summer but it can be good early as well depending on water conditions.  Smallmouth fishing is some of my favorite fishing of the year, lots of action and a hard fighting fish, hard not to have a great time with those combos.  If you are looking to get out for some Smallmouth action I still have plenty of dates this Summer to go after those.  Bring the kids as they have a ball catching a bunch of Smallmouth Bass.  Get ahold of me to book your summer dates.

Grand River Steelhead Muskegon River Steelhead Pere Marquette River Steelhead

2023 is here and we are looking forward to seeing what the New Year is going to bring us! We have had a great Fall/Winter Steelhead season with lots of large fish being brought to the net. The water levels have just come up with the latest snow melt and rain and that should bring in some fresh fish to play with. I have some January - April Steelhead dates open as well as some March - May Coho, King, Lake Trout, Brown Trout Lake Michigan fishing dates as well. It is never too early to book your Summer time Smallmouth or Fall Salmon/Steelhead trips for 2023 as well. Give me a call or email to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and the great fishery that we have here in West Michigan!

Summer Smallmouth Bass and King Salmon

Smallmouth Bass fishing around Grand Rapids on the Grand River and on the Muskegon River has been good this summer. We have also been getting Northern Pike, Walleye, and Largemouth Bass tossed in most days. If you are in the Grand Rapids area and are looking for something to do a Smallmouth bass trip is a good way to spend some time and check out some of the wild life in the area.

Salmon and Trout fishing has been good most days out on Lake Michigan with the big mature Kings showing back up before their spawning run. We offer trolling in lake Michigan, jigging in Lake Michigan and the drowned river mouths, as well as river fishing for Kings.

I am booking fall and winter Steelhead fishing trips now so if you have any dates that you want get ahold of me before they fill in.

Grand River Steelhead Fishing Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing here around Grand Rapids and in West Michigan in general has been good for us on our guide trips. We have been putting good numbers of fish in the boat all Fall and Winter and we look forward to this Spring. The Grand River near Grand Rapids should fish good for awhile for Steelhead, we are fully licensed captains that can legally fish anywhere on the Grand River if you are looking to fish here. The Muskegon River has been fishing good for us as well on our guide trips over this past fall and winter. The Muskegon should have fish well through April and depending on the weather well into May some years.

We offer Walleye fishing charters on the Grand River and Muskegon River before they close on March 15 if you would like to go after those. We offer combo trips with Steelhead if you would like to go after both species.

We are currently booking Spring Coho, King Salmon, and Lake Trout trips on Lake Michigan. Coho and Lake Trout are usually easy targets as soon as the ice is gone and we can get onto Lake Michigan. The King Salmon usually show up in good numbers in early May on the Michigan side of Lake Michigan. We look forward to Spring Lake Michigan fishing in shallow water for great eating Coho and King Salmon.

We are also booking Smallmouth Bass fishing guide trips around the Grand Rapids area. Grand Rapids is centrally located for some great fishing, you have the Grand River that offers a diverse fishery as well as the Muskegon River that is only 45 minutes north that offers great fishing as well.

Below is a sample of some fish caught on recent guide trips.

West Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good for us all fall here in West Michigan. We have been catching good numbers of Steelhead most days since October. We have not boated any giants yet this season but lots of good sized Steelhead with the occasional Lake Run Brown Trout tossed in. Winter is here and we should have some good fishing through spring with the influx of water that we have had lately. If you want to get out this Winter and want to keep your hands warm and just sit back and relax we offer Plugging trips. If you want a more hands on experience bobber fishing or bottom bouncing is the way we will go. If you are looking to get out this Winter or Spring for Steelhead give me a call. Also booking March, April, and May Lake Michigan trolling and casting fishing trips for Coho Salmon, King Salmon, Brown Trout, and Lake Trout. Below are some of the doubles we have had this fall.

Fall Steelhead Fishing

Salmon season is winding down for us and Steelhead fishing is picking up. I would like to thank all of you that made it out this fall with Getting Bit Guide Service, it is great to see familiar faces as well as meet new ones. I look forward to hopefully fishing with you all in the future. If you are looking to get out this fall I still have a few dates open as well as a fair amount of Winter dates. We had some very large King Salmon this fall so we are excited to see what some of these Steelhead look like as far as size. It is mid early October so we have been catching a mix of Kings, Coho, and Steelhead, I will be converting over to mostly Steelhead fishing over the next week with the cooler weather forecasted. For all of your Grand River, Muskegon River, Pere Marquette, and White River guided fishing give us a call or email!

Winter/Spring Steelhead, Lake MI Coho, Trout, and Salmon

Winter Steelhead fishing has been good for us, we have been catching good numbers most days and most of them are good sized as well. I still have some February, March, and April dates open if you are interested in some river fishing for Steelhead on the Grand River, Muskegon River or Pere Marquette River.

Walleye fishing should start to heat up here shortly as well. If you are interested in a Walleye or Walleye/Steelhead combo trip let me know.

I will start fishing Lake Michigan in April or sooner as well if you are looking to get out on the big pond for some Coho, King, Lake Trout, and Brown Trout action. Coho, Brown Trout, and Lake Trout action usually starts off first and then we usually start picking of Kings as soon as the water starts to warm up a little in mid to late April. Trolling is usually the most productive in finding numbers of fish but we also cast or jig as well this time of year.

Smallmouth Bass fishing trips are also being booked now so if you have a date in mind let me know. I usually start out my river fishing trips in June and fishing remains good all Summer long.

Steelhead fishing is in full swing!

Salmon fishing was good for us this fall but we are glad to be beating on good numbers of Steelhead now. Fishing has been good for us for fall steelhead, we have seen good numbers and good sized fish so far. Most of our fall fishing for Steelhead is done on the Muskegon, Grand, PM, and White Rivers. Give me a call if you are looking to get out. It is never too early to book Spring Steelhead, Summer Smallmouth, or next Falls King Salmon fishing.

Fishing has been on fire! Smallmouth, Salmon, Steelhead, Lake Trout, etc..

Smallmouth bass fishing has been fast paced, lots of action for us all day long. We have mainly been fishing on the Grand River that runs through Grand Rapids. The Muskegon has been putting out some nice fish as well when we have been up there near Newaygo. We have been catching Walleye here and there while targeting Smallmouth bass as well.

The fishing on Lake Michigan has been good for a mixed bag of King Salmon, Coho Salmon, Lake Trout, and Steelhead. We have been mainly fishing between Holland and Muskegon lately but will probably start focusing more up north of there soon. Lake Trout jigging has been good for us as well when we have been out doing that. We have caught great numbers and good sized fish on average with some fish over 20lbs this summer.

I will be starting to target King Salmon in the rivers mid August so that is coming up really soon. We should have another year of very large fish this year. Last year the average King that we caught out of the river was right around 23lbs with some over 30 mixed in.

If you want to book a Steelhead this fall get with me ASAP so I can get you on my calendar before those dates fill in. We should have some big Steelhead as well with the abundant bait that we have had on the lake.

Smallmouth Bass, Lake Trout, King Salmon, Steelhead, Walleye, etc..

Smallmouth Bass fishing has been on fire here in West Michigan with the warm weather that we have had. We are seeing good numbers and good sized fish most days on the water right now. Fishing should be good through August when we switch gears over to river King Salmon fishing. We have caught a few Walleye and Pike as well while out targeting Smallmouth Bass on the Grand River and Muskegon River.

We have been doing really good out on Lake Michigan Jigging and Trolling for Lake Trout. We have gotten a lot of really good sized trout over the past month and this should stay good throughout the summer. King Salmon are starting to show back up as they usually do in July, there have been some really big fish again this year. Steelhead have been part of our catch while trolling Lake Michigan as well on most days.

If you would like to get out on a river King Salmon or Steelhead fishing trip this fall get with me asap as dates are starting to fill in. I have a few King dates left myself and I have another guide that has some dates as well. We will have some real trophy sized Kings and Steelhead around this year so you do not want to miss out!

Summer fishing is here! Smallmouth Bass, Lake Trout, Salmon, Steelhead

Fishing has been good for Lake Trout out on Lake Michigan and the Salmon fishing has been tougher as of this first week of June. We have good trolling and jigging opportunities for Lake Trout right now and that should continue throughout the summer. There have been some summer run Steelhead showing up along the lake shore and those should be around through July depending on water temperatures. Salmon fishing should pick up towards the end of June. Smallmouth bass fishing should be heating up good as we get into June a little more, we have been picking on some here and there but have not been out much yet for them. Get with me if you are looking to get out this Summer or Fall and get a date in the books!

I have a few September river fishing dates left for mornings and some afternoons as well but my dates are very limited at the moment. Jack has some dates open if I am filled or if you want to get out with him. October, November, December Steelhead dates are starting to book so if you want to get out and do that let us know and we will get a prime date for you.

Spring Steelhead Fishing has been Good! Lake Michigan fishing just around the corner.

The Steelhead fishing has been great for us this Winter and it should continue until the Spring run is done. We have been catching good numbers and the average size has been very impressive. We have put lots of master angler sized Steelhead in the net this year and that should continue. I have some March dates open as well as some April dates for Steelhead and my guide Jack has days open as well if I do not have the date that you need. We have jet boats as well as driftboats and offer Spring trips on the Muskegon, Grand, White, Pere Marquette, Rogue, and Kalmazoo.

Lake Michigan has a lot less ice than normal for this time of year so we should have some good early action out there this year. I am anticipating some big King Salmon this spring as we have had a mild winter and that is usually good for our baitfish and prolongs the growing season for the predator fish. Coho have already been caught in good numbers down south when you can get out, Lake Trout fishing has been good as well. I love to Steelhead fish the rivers but am looking forward to being out on the lake.

If you are looking forward to some Smallmouth fishing I am booking trips for Spring and Summer Smallmouth as well. Starting in May and going through the first week of September I offer Smallmouth, Largemouth, Pike, and Walleye trips on the rivers and lakes.
Here is a sample of some fish that we have put in the boat lately.

Steelhead, Walleye, and Big Lake Coho, King, and Trout fishing

We have been doing well fishing for Steelhead all Winter, we have seen decent numbers with a big average size. The weather has been crazy this year being so warm, I would not doubt that we have an early run this spring as there is little to no ice on the rivers and lakes in the area. If you are looking to get out this Winter/Spring on the Muskegon, Grand, Pere Marquette, or other area rivers get in contact with me. I myself have dates open and my other guide Jack has some Spring dates as well.

If you are interested in fishing for some Walleye before they close on our rivers I will be offering trips for those as well. We can combo that with Steelhead fishing if you would like. I have a few February and March dates open for that.

Before you know it we will be back out on Lake Michigan fishing for Salmon and Trout. I plan to start getting out there as soon as I can fishing for Coho down on the southern end of Lake Michigan. Usually March and April is great Coho fishing and then by late April and May we have King Salmon to pursue as well. Lake Trout are usually thrown in the catch as well while fishing the other species.

Below are a few pics. Steelhead are recent and the other species are old pics looking forward to what is around the corner.

Winter Steelhead Fishing

It is hard to believe we are already nearing mid December. We have had weather all over the place this fall with lots of water. Fishing has been good for us for the most part with a slower day here and there. There seems to be a few less fish around this year but we have some large fish around this year so your chance at catching a trophy is higher that normal. The water on the Grand River has been on the higher side so I have not had a chance to fish that much this fall. The higher water on the Grand has the fish spread throughout the system as with most high water years a lot of fish go over the dam in Grand Rapids and have free reign until they hit Webber dam. The Muskegon has had higher water flows all fall and it has had small spurts of fish coming in, we have been picking of a mix of fresh and darker fish here at this point. The PM has been high and when we have fished it we have found some good chrome fish waiting for us. With the cold weather setting in we should see the rivers start to get back to more normal levels and we should have some good fishing to come. Winter time is a great time to book a trip, we have great scenery and great fishing.

If anyone is looking for a gift idea for Christmas I have gift certificates that can be purchased for any amount and can be used at anytime of the year. Trips include River fishing for Steelhead, Salmon, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Pike, we also offer lake trips on Lake Michigan, Huron, and inland lakes for King Salmon, Steelhead, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Atlantic Salmon, Coho, Smallmouth Bass, and Walleye.

We are booking our peak dates for Spring Steelhead so if you want to get out this March or April get a hold of me so we can lock in the date that you want.

Below is a small sample of some fish that we have caught recently.

Fall Steelhead Fishing

We are now well into our fall steelhead season and fishing has been all over the board due to water conditions. We will have good fishing for a couple days and then the rain hits again and dirties the water up and makes the fishing tough. Some dry weather and or colder temperatures would do wonders for us at this point. The Steelhead have been on the larger side this year, lots of the them have been hard to land due to the size and power of these fish. I look forward to the next couple of months to see the size of some of the beasts that enter the rivers. At the moment I have some December dates open if anyone is looking to get out searching for a trophy. It was great to have everyone out that I did for King Salmon, it is always a pleasure seeing old friends and meeting new ones as well. We had some good fishing with some awesome sized fish this year, I look forward to next year and what it will bring for sure.

King Salmon, Steelhead, and Lake Trout

It has been a great King Salmon river fishing season. I have had the pleasure to catch up with great clients which have become friends and I have met others that I look forward to fishing with again in the future. We have boated a lot of large Kings this year, with the average size being over well over 20lbs we have definitely had some fun and interesting battles. We should still see some good King Salmon fishing well into the month of May and I have a guide with some days open if anyone is interested in booking a King trip yet this season. If anyone is looking to get on the books for next King Salmon season it is never too early to secure the date that you want.

Steelhead fishing is approaching fast and although the Kings are a blast to chase I have to admit I am looking forward to some high flying fall steelhead. I have a few October, November, and December dates open if anyone is looking to get in on some Fall Steelhead action. I have lots of January and February dates open as well for those of you that prefer to get out and enjoy some great Winter fishing.

Lake Trout fishing on the shorelines of Lake Michigan will be heating up as well. These big spawners are fun to catch on light tackle, it is nothing like dragging them in on trolling gear. If anyone is interested in a trip catching big lakers let me know.

Huge King Salmon, Steelhead, Lake Trout, Smallmouth, and Walleye

Kings are showing up in decent numbers on the lake and they are BIG! There have been lots of 30 plus pound fish being caught over the last week here in Michigan, I cannot ever remember a year when there have been so many 30lb fish around. We have been getting a mix of King Salmon, Steelhead, Coho, and Lake Trout while out trolling. River fishing has been great for Smallmouth Bass with a Walleye or two thrown in here and there. Smallmouth fishing should be good for awhile if you want to get out and do that. Lake Trout Jigging has been good for us when we have been getting out and doing that, we have been finding lots of fish between 10 and 20lbs. I hope to get out and start jigging for Salmon soon, a few have been showing up in the drowned river mouths such as Pere Marquette Lake, Manistee Lake, and Betsie Lake. Jigging for these hog kings is an arm wrenching experience when one hits your spoon. August is a great month to get out, this is the month to find your trophy sized King Salmon while trolling or jigging and they will be hitting the rivers later in the month as well. I will be doing morning and afternoon trips for King Salmon on the rivers so if you want to get out let me know, this should be a year to remember with the oversized Kings. I have August dates, a few September morning dates as well as a bunch of afternoons, October dates as well. My guide Jack has some dates open as well so if I do not have a day open I can set you up with him as well. Give me a call to get out on my lake boat, jet sled, or drift boat 616-570-2946

Smallmouth Bass, King Salmon, Lake Trout, Steelhead, Coho Salmon

Fishing for Smallmouth Bass on the river has been good. The rivers have dropped and the fish have been on the feed, a few walleye are biting as well. Salmon and Trout fishing has been decent on the lake. The past few trips there have been more Lake Trout biting but the Salmon should start showing again good towards the end of the month. Jigging for King Salmon should start heating up in August if you are looking to get out and do that.

I am booking King Salmon morning and afternoon trips for August, September, and October if you are looking to get out. Jigging for Kings usually gets going early to mid August and river trips follow that. Steelhead can be targeted starting early October so get a hold of me for your fall Steelhead dates before the dates start to fill in.

Jet Boat, Drift Boat, Lake Boat, and Raft trips available.

King Salmon, Lake Trout, Steelhead, and Smallmouth

Fishing has been great on Lake Michigan for King Salmon for numbers and size. We are seeing lots of fish over 20 pounds on the lake already which means they should be really fun to deal with when they hit the rivers this August and September. We have been catching mostly Kings but a few Lake Trout and Steelhead have been mixed in. Kings are currently being caught from Southern Lake Michigan all the way up past Manistee in decent numbers. A few Skamania have been showing up and that should heat up shortly.

Smallmouth fishing has been good on area lakes but the rivers have been a little high for good fishing. Once the rivers drop we should have some good bass action through the summer with some Walleye tossed in as well.

My fall trips are starting to fill in for King Salmon so the time to book your trips is now. I will be doing mornings as well as some afternoon trips. Give me a call if you are looking to get out.

May King Salmon and Trout

We have been catching some really good sized Kings over the past few weeks and they should be around good through the month of May. Lake Trout have been keeping us busy on days when the Salmon fishing has been slow, we have also been catching a few coho and the odd steelhead as well. River fishing for steelhead is winding down with a few still being caught on the Muskegon River. Smallmouth fishing has been decent on the Grand when we can get a break from the rain. If you want to get out this Summer we should have good Smallmouth fishing June through August, King Salmon fishing should be good all of May, Skamania will be showing up on the lake shore in late May and hitting the rivers after that.

April Steelhead and Lake Michigan fishing for Salmon and Trout

Steelhead are spawning with some new fish showing up and some drop backs heading back down. We are primarily on the Muskegon River now and the fishing has been good some days and working for them other days. Lake Michigan has been good for Coho Salmon and Lake Trout out of the southern ports. We are trolling for the Coho and mainly jigging for the Lake Trout. King Salmon should start showing up better towards the end of April or the first part of May. The few pictures of Kings that have been caught already indicate that they are going to be hogs again this year. Smallmouth Bass fishing is right around the corner as well on area rivers. Get ahold of me if you are looking to get out on the rivers or Lake Michigan this Spring.

It is starting to feel like Spring!

Steelhead fishing has been pretty good for us lately. We are finding mostly steelhead that have been in the river for a little while but the rain we just got we should see some new recruits from the lake. I have a few days open this Spring if anyone is looking to get out, I also have a couple of guides that are looking to fill some dates as well. This time of year we operate on the Grand River, Muskegon River, White River, Rogue River, and Pere Marquette. I also will be doing some Spring Coho Salmon and King Salmon trips this late April and May on Lake Michigan as well as Summer Lake trips trolling and jigging. Don’t forget Summer time Smallmouth bass and Walleye fishing on the rivers, you cannot beat the weather, scenery, and fishing action.

Spring Steelheading is right around the corner!

I still have some days open for Spring Steelhead fishing so give me a call if you want to get out. I have a few Steelhead/Walleye fishing combo days open as well before the season closes on March 15. Fishing has been decent for us lately on the river when the weather has let us out on the water. This April and May I will also be offering Coho and King Salmon fishing trips on Lake Michigan. We will be launching out of whatever port has the best fishing when lake conditions allow us to get out.

Tis The Season!

Now is the time to book your Winter Steelheading trips, the weather is warm and the fish are biting. We are getting into some big fish as we usually do this time of year but this year there seems to be some extra large ones swimming around. We have been putting master angler sized fish in the boat regularly and landing multiple fish that qualify some days. This is the year to find a real trophy! We can fish a larger river such as the Muskegon or Grand or if you prefer smaller water we can plan on fishing rivers such as the PM, Rogue, or White. I have Gift Certificates that can be bought for any amount towards a trip if you have a loved one that enjoys fishing. It is never to early to book your Spring Steelhead or River Salmon fishing trips for 2019!

Winter Steelheading!

Steelhead fishing continues to be good for us here in West Michigan. We have had a few slower days but for the most part we have had some good fishing with some huge fish tossed in. With the last round of rain and snowmelt we have had a good rise in the river levels that should set us up nicely for the Winter with a fresh push of Steelhead. December is a great month to book a trip as the fish are in the rivers good and we usually see some of the largest Steelhead of the year hit the net at this time. Looking ahead, January and February are great months as well as long as mother nature lets us get out. The scenery is great during the Winter months and Steelheading is a great way to beat cabin fever. I have gift certificates for those that are looking for a great gift idea for your loved ones, they can be purchased for any amount towards a trip and can be used year round. Below is a sample of the fish we have caught lately.

Steelhead are running large!

Steelhead fishing has been pretty good overall. We have had days where we are getting into really good numbers and days that we have to work for them but the fish we are getting into are quality fish. Just like the Salmon we have seen this year we are seeing some oversized Steelhead as well. If you are looking for a trophy sized Steelhead this is a year where your chances are higher than usual to find one. We just got a bunch of rain and we have some cold temperatures coming so the fish should come in pretty good and give us a good fall/winter fishery. I have some days myself in December and throughout the Winter if you want to get out with me on the river. I also have another guide that has some days open scattered through November and December as well. December is a great month to get out, we can catch Steelhead using a variety of techniques. If you want to stay busy and do more of a hands on type of trip we float fish, cast hardware, and bottom bounce bait. If you would rather sit back and relax let me know and we can put some plugs out and watch rods get hammered. If anyone is looking for a gift idea I have gift certificates, a guided trip is a great gift for Christmas or Birthdays.

Steelhead are here!

The cooler weather has kicked the Steelhead fishing into gear, there are still Salmon around as well. We have been catching some nice sized Steelhead so far this fall, they have been really well fed fish. Early Fall Steelhead are the hardest fighting of the year and they are super aggressive. The King Salmon are winding down but there are still fishable numbers around if you want to go after those at the moment. If you are looking to get out this Fall or Winter on the Grand River, Muskegon River, White River, Rogue River, or Pere Marquette give us a call or Email. Below is a sample of some of the fish we have been catching.

King Salmon, Steelhead, and Coho Salmon

King Salmon fishing has been good to great most days lately. We have landed numerous 30 plus pound fish this week and lots of 25 to 29lb fish. We have been catching some steelhead as well depending on where and what we are using for bait, we have also caught a few coho as well. King fishing should remain decent for a few weeks yet and steelhead fishing should pick up over the next couple of weeks.

King Salmon, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Skamania

King Salmon fishing on the rivers is still slow, the water is too warm and a little bit of rain would help as well.  The Lake fishing has been slow to good depending on the day and what port you are fishing.  The mature King Salmon that are being caught are huge on average, 30 pound fish have been caught daily out on the lake it seems.  We should start seeing these fish hit the pier heads and rivers soon.

Smallmouth Bass fishing has been good with the dry and hot weather.  We have been catching good numbers of fish daily with some good sized fish mixed in with the smaller and average sized ones.  We have been catching a few Walleye as well while going after Smallmouth Bass, usually 2 to 4 a trip and they have been good sized fish.

There are a few Skamania around in the area rivers but numbers have been down this Summer unless you have been fishing the way southern end of the lake and the tribs down that way.

I purchased a 20 foot Alumaweld Intruder this summer and it has been inspected and is ready to run trips.  The boat is easily trailerable so I can take it to different ports depending on where the bite is.  I plan on offering some different types of trips in the future.  Spring  Coho trolling and casting, jigging and casting for trout and salmon, trolling for trout and salmon,  and more.  I will provide more info in the future on this website but if you have questions drop me an email or call.

Smallmouth Bass fishing is Hot!  King Salmon, Coho, Steelhead, and Lake Trout!

Smallmouth Bass fishing on the Grand River and Muskegon River has been good.  We have been picking up Walleye and the occasional Pike as well while fishing for Smallmouth.  We should have some good Smallmouth Bass fishing well into September if you are looking to get out this Summer.  A few Kings are starting to show back up on our side of Lake Michigan and the numbers should improve as we move into mid July.  There are some really Big King Salmon this year out on the lake with many over 30 pounds already being caught by the trollers, we should see some real beasts when they hit the rivers this fall.  Coho, Steelhead, and Lake Trout fishing has been good on the lake depending on what port you are fishing out of, again the size of the Coho and Steelhead is above average for this time of year.  I have booked up a lot of my Salmon days for this September and early October so if you want to get out let me know and we can hopefully get a date together.  I have another guide that has some dates open as well this fall including weekends if I do not have the day open that you need.  We have Jet boats, a drift boat, a 3 man fishing raft, and a lake boat to cover all bases so give me a call to catch some trophy sized fish.

Smallmouth Bass, Summer Run Steelhead, King Salmon, and Walleye

King Salmon fishing has been great this Spring out on Lake Michigan.  We are seeing good numbers and the size has been impressive as well.  We have been catching a good number of Coho Salmon as well when venturing off shore.  Smallmouth Bass fishing should get going good with the water levels dropping and temperatures warming up.  Smallmouth Bass fishing is a great way to spend a summer day.  The weather, scenery, and action is usually top notch.  The Skamania are not too far off now, there have been some picked off from the piers along the lake shore and a few should start to trickle into the rivers.  Walleye fishing should pick up as well when the river levels drop some on the Grand River.  I just picked up another boat to run trips for trolling , jigging, and casting on Lake Michigan.  It is a 20 foot Alumaweld Intruder so it is trailerable and easy to follow the fish up and down the lake if need be.  I hope to have it all set up how I want and inspected by the DNR as soon as possible.  I will post more info on the trips that will be available on the new boat later on when it is ready.   If you are looking to get out on the river this fall for King Salmon get a hold of me as soon as possible as my dates are filling in.  Don't miss out, we should have some massive sized fish this year judging by the size of the Salmon we have seen already on Lake Michigan.

Spring Steelhead and Smallmouth Bass

Spring Steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River is wrapping up with a few new fish still coming in but most are either spawning or dropping back out to the lake at this point.   The Walleye fishing has been decent on area rivers and the Smallmouth Bass bite has been heating up as well.  King Salmon fishing should be heating up on Lake Michigan with the warmer weather that we have had.  It sounds like they are getting some big King Salmon over 20 pounds out of the southern ports of Lake Michigan.  If you want to book a Spring or Summer guide trip for Smallmouth, Skamania Steelhead, King Salmon, or Walleye get ahold of me via the contact page or give me a call at 616-570-2946.  We offer trips out of our Jet Boats, Fishing raft, and Drift Boats.  Below are some pictures from this Spring Steelhead Season.
