Lake Run Brown Trout and Lake Trout
Lake Run Brown Trout and Lake Trout are usually caught as by-catch while on our guide trips for Salmon and Steelhead. The Lake Run Browns usually start showing up in late October and some will winter over in the rivers until February or March. These fish can grow to very large proportions and Michigan is home to the world record Brown Trout. Lake Trout will usually start showing up sometime in November and are usually gone by January. When the Lakers are around they are feeding machines.
Michigan Steelhead Fishing
Steelhead aka Lake Run Rainbow Trout usually start to show up in fishable numbers in West Michigan rivers by early October, we start our guided trips for steelhead around the 10th. The October steelhead are my favorite, they are in top condition and show so by providing many jumps and long line burning runs. Usually by November the steelhead fishing is going strong in the Grand, Muskegon, and Big Manistee and big number days can be had most days.
Michigan Salmon Fishing - King Salmon, Coho Salmon
Chinook Salmon aka King Salmon are known for their sheer power and speed, Michigan has excellent fishing for these fish in rivers that we guide on such as the Pere Marquette and Big Manistee. These fish usually average around 12-18lbs with some fish up to 30lbs mixed in. They will definitely surprise you with their power when they try to take the rod out of your hand as they smash your crankbait. We usually start targeting these fish in the Michigan rivers in mid to late August depending on the weather and continue to fish them into mid to late October.
